Cherry farmhouse dining table for the Calloways

Sarah and Mark were rebuilding their farmhouse kitchen and needed a table to anchor it. We picked the cherry together, talked about how big the family was going to get, and I built a piece that could handle a generation of meals. The breadboard ends keep the top flat through Vermont winters.

Restored secretary desk, three generations old

Diane's grandmother's secretary desk had moved through three houses and a flood. The drawers stuck, the finish was lost, and the back was held on with packing tape. I tightened every joint, rebuilt the back, refinished without stripping the patina that made it hers. She cried a little when she picked it up.

Built-in shelving and window seat

Tom's living room had two awkward corners and trim that didn't quite match anything from a hardware store. I built the shelving and bench to fit the wall it was going on, painted to match the original trim, and made it look like it had been there since the house was built in 1908.

Walnut writing desk

A professor wanted a writing desk for the room he was retiring into. Single slab top, two drawers, mortise-and-tenon legs. Simple, deliberate, the kind of piece you sit at for a long afternoon and don't notice you're sitting at one.

Mudroom bench and cubbies

Four kids, one mudroom, ten years of boots. I built a bench with hidden storage, six cubbies with name tags, and ten hooks at the right heights. The bench doubles as a seat for taking boots off in February.

Maple bedside tables, a matched pair

A couple wanted matching bedside tables that didn't look like a hotel. Two drawers, a small open shelf, slightly different grain patterns so you can tell them apart. Built from the same board so the color stays consistent over time.
